MAX MEEK HIKE

Saturday, July 12
to the LITTLE NORTH FORK

The Annual Max Meek Hike will be on Saturday, July 12, from 9:00 am–5:00 pm. This is a beautiful hike of about 4 ½ miles and is “kid” friendly. Bring a sack lunch, a walking stick if you’d like, a jacket and lots of smiles. Those wishing to participate need to be at the church by 8:50 am on July 12.

We will need to know how many will be riding in the church van. Everyone must please “sign-up” on the list provided in the Chalice entry.

Any questions? Call Wilbur & Lela Jackson (503-378-0335) or Wayne & Mary Ann Smith (503-581-5908). Let’s have a great hike!

BACKPACK SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE

During Vacation Bible School, our mission project this year was to collect school supplies for local school kids in need. We will start with needs in our church, and then make donations to the local family shelters and to the elementary schools in our area. We would like to continue our BACKPACK SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE throughout the summer. On the main bulletin board near the Chalice Entry, you will find various supplies listed. Choose one, make your purchase, or purchases, and then leave your donations in the designated box. Monetary donations will be accepted as well. Let's fill those backpacks.

Thank you, The Children's Ministries Team

What Disciples Believe

Disciples Affirm:

  • Jesus Christ is the son of the Living God,
  • All persons are God's children

Beliefs and practices usually associated with Disciples include:

  • Open Communion. The Lord's Supper, or Communion is celebrated in weekly worship. It is open to all who believe in Jesus Christ.
  • Freedom of belief. Disciples are called together around one essential of faith: belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Persons are free to follow their consciences guided by the Bible, the Holy Spirit study and prayer, and are expected to extend that freedom to others.
  • Baptism by immersion. In baptism the old self-centered life is set aside, and a new life of trust in God begins. Although Disciples practice baptism by immersion, other baptism traditions are honored.
  • Belief in the oneness of the church. All Christians are called to be one in Christ and to seek opportunities for common witness and service.
  • The ministry of believers. Both ministers and lay persons lead in worship, service and spiritual growth.
