Now the 9:30 AM Rise contemporary worship service and the 11 AM traditional worship services are available over the internet. These are called podcasts and this is a way to allow anyone anywhere in the world with a computer and access to the Internet to experience our worship services. If you miss church or just want to re-listen to a service or the sermon, now you can.
You can listen to them on your computer or subscribe to your favorite service or sermon and listen to them in iTunes. They come in four categories.
Rise 930 AM (contemporary worship)
11 am Traditional Worship
Sermon 930 AM Service
Sermon 11 AM Service
You can just go to SalemFCC Podcasts and choose one of these categories from the column on the right. You can listen to whichever service you want by clicking on the icon to the left of the title of each posting. You can also download a given file by clicking on the title of the file to the right of the text "Direct Download" toward the bottom of each individual post.
However, the best way to enjoy these services or sermons is to subscribe for free in iTunes and get each new service or sermon when it is released (usually on Sunday evening at the latest by Monday). First make sure you have iTunes installed on your computer. You can go to Apple iTunes to get it for free.
Simply select a category from the list below.
11 am Traditional Worship
Rise 930 AM (Contemporary Worship)
Sermon 11 AM Service
Sermon 930 AM Service
Click on either the purple iTunes icon or the title of whichever service or sermon category you want and it should then open iTunes with your selection. It should look like this:
Then just click the button at the top that says "Subscribe" and iTunes will add the most recent service or sermon to iTunes under "Library" on the left called Podcasts.
Note that you can also send this particular podcast to a friend by choosing "Tell a Friend" in the example above and filling out the form shown below. This is a great way to get share our services and sermons with friends and family that may not be able to attend for whatever reason.
You can set up iTunes to check for new podcasts on a regular basis by going to Edit --> Preferences and selecting the Podcast tab and change "Check for new podcasts" to "Weekly". You will then get that service or sermon every week without having to do anything! After listening to a podcast, you can delete it by selecting the podcast individual episode (NOT the heading with the little triangle next to it) and hit the "Delete" key.
For more help with iTunes see Apple iTunes Support
You can still download the files to your computer or just listen to them from the web page by clicking on the icon. You don't have to subscribe, it just makes it much easier.
You can also search within the audio by using the search box in the right-hand column shown below:
If you know a word or phrase that was used in a sermon, but don't remember which sermon it was used in, this will find it and give you the ability to go right to the location of that phrase within each sermon or service. A search will take you to the Everyzing website which provides this service for free.
Here is an example for a search for "declaration" in recent sermons. Below are the first two results.
You can see that the first time it is mentioned is 3 min and 32 sec into Pastor Bob's Sermon of July 1, 2007 or 39 min and 31 sec into the full service. If you do an actual search you can click the "Play Here" link and it will take you directly to that point in the service or sermon. What is shown above is a screen shot and the links are not active. To see the actual results click on "declaration". When you do a real search for your own word or phrase, these links will work.
We hope you enjoy these podcast and that you share them with family and friends. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me at church or email your questions to Ed Vawter and I'll be glad to answer them.
